The 56th Blake Prize

Friends of the Blake

For over half a century the Blake Prize for Religious Art has made a significant contribution to the history of Australian art. The Blake Society continues to deal with the inevitable tensions that prevail in such organic concepts of art and spirituality.  These concepts also make the Blake Prize a unique and exciting cultural icon.  Controversy and debate keep it dynamic and contemporary.

Today, the emphasis of the Prize lies in a shared understanding of diverse religious and spiritual inspiration and continued excellence in contemporary art. The prize encourages all interpretations of religion and spirituality expressed in any visual arts medium.

On behalf of the Directors of the Blake Society I invite you to become a "Friend of the Blake" and enjoy:

  • contributing to Australia’s cultural diversity
  • supporting the arts and artists in a meaningful way
  • helping to provide dialogue and tolerance

The Society hosts a number of "Friends" events each year.  It is an opportunity for our supporters to meet artists and other members of the art community.  Funds raised by the Friends of the Blake are used to support the development of:

  • Public Program events during the Blake Prize Finalists Exhibition at the NAS
  • Educational resource materials for the Touring Blake

If you would like to become a Friend of the Blake, please complete the application form and return with payment to:
