The John Coburn Emerging Artist Award

Introduced in 2007 as a way to encourage emerging artists to challenge their art practice, this award category continues to uncover new and inspiring artistic talent.

About John Coburn
When John Coburn won the Blake Prize in 1960, it enabled him to begin a professional career as an artist. John went on to make a major contribution to Australian visual culture and is remembered for his paintings, design, and tapestries including the curtains for the Sydney Opera House.

He was a Director of the Blake Society and designed the Society's logo. He was a teacher and active supporter of young and emerging artists.
